St. Lorenzo Ruiz

THe only Filipino saint, St. Lorenzo Ruiz, born in Binondo, Manila, a layman and father of three, accused of murder, exiled to Japan where he was tortured to denounce Christianity, that he never did, "That I shall never do, because I am a Christian and I shall die for God, and for Him I will give many thousands of lives if I had them. And so do with me as you will please." With his strong Christian faith led him to martyrdom. He was beatified by Pope John Paul II in 1981 and canonized into sainthood in 1987 by Pope John Paul II in Vatican City. His feastday is today, September 28.

St. Lorenzo Ruiz is the patron saint of the high school sophomores in my son's school. I do not regularly attend Sunday mass, so I make it a point to attend special Feast days. There was a recollection for students and parents, afterwhich, mass followed.

summer

You are not a Filipino if you have not been to Baguio. As a child, the mere mention of Baguio always excites me. Back to the days when Baguio was still clean and under populated. Last summer, my travelmate and I went to Sagada instead of Baguio. Why Sagada? Well, it's not that  i don't know how to swim but honestly i'm not a beach bum.....

From Manila, we took the bus (Florida) to Banaue. The 8-hour trip went on smoothly and we reached Banaue exactly for breakfast.

As seen on our one thousend peso bill:
We took a van that charge 300php per head for a 3-hour ride to Sagada:

Sagada is famous for its hanging coffins. Climbed up the echo valley to where these coffins hanged on a big solid rock

Basketball court at the foot of Echo Valley:

Betel nut or simply called mamma by the locals. Seems everybody in Banaue chew this even the kids and the teens:
Stop over in Atok on the way to Baguio

He makes good kimchi:

A proposed concert reunion is being planned for the 10th year anniversary of F4, the taiwanese boyband. Hope this will push through as Jerry Yan is now uner treatment for a minor ailment. Ken expressed his willingness to attend, same thing with Vic and Vanness who is currently filming a drama Material Queen. If things goes well and plans materialize, so good to see the 4 of them in one stage again....F4ever!!!!!!

honesty is the best policy.......

One Christian values we inculcate our children is about honesty. We tell them, HONESTY IS THE BEST POLICY.....We teach them to have fear in God and honest in everything. Be it on money, food, and even school grades. We tell them not to cheat during exams. We ask them to return found items, etc. And even gluttony is a mortal sin!!!

My issue here is not about the children. It's all about us adults. Children look up on us and all dependent on us. We should set as models for them to follow as they grow up.

We attend masses and go to church, alright. Have we examined ourselves if we are fit to the kingdom of God? Personally, I have nothing against masses, i see it as a celebration and praising for God. My point is, there is no use in celebrating and praising if we do not practice these values.

Now, how can we teach our children good values if we, ourselves do not know the ABCs of these? .... Well, I strongly believe in the law of KARMA!!!!!

favoritism

My 8 years old daughter came home proubly being the highest in their quiz. However, she was a bit disappointed that her teacher was not so happy about it, that everytime my daughter gets the highest score, the teacher is pouting. My daughter sensed that MAYBE the teacher wants someone else to get the highest score but not her - a reaction from an 8 year old, you see. Well, is there favoritism in class?

waiting................

Flight 226 to Laoag delayed for an hour due to tech probs as the PA annouced. Been here all morning waiting. And have to wait again. WAiting for me is agonising, but all my life as far as i can remember - i'm always waiting. When i was a kid, i used to wait for the parents to come home. Than I went to school and waited for recess, to the dentist and waited for my turn to be called. Everywhere i go and everything I do, waiting is always there, waiting for me. hahaha.

yellow and red

The sudden death of world's pop icon Michael Jackson brought me on a nostalgia trip to my "bagets" days. Back when disco music blasts and moonwalk steps on the dancefloor. MJ is legendary for his crouch gripping performance.

Now, the icon of democracy former president Cory Aquino. Well, blame it with the big C. I have seen Tita Cory several times but did not bother photo ops. That was more than 20 years ago. Having witnessed countless political rallies, the yellow ribbons and yellow confettis along Ayala, to the water canons and high voltage barricades along Mendiola. I have seen the People Power at Edsa to the seige of Malacanang.

They were all in yellow, I was in red. That era, the Laban sign was in. They flash the L, I flashed the V. This is funny but I patronized Red Ribbon and evaded Goldilocks. ha ha...............

SOBRA NA, TAMA NA, PALITAN NA, irritated my ears and would embrace CORY WALANG ALAM!

I realised just few years back, what I believed in the past, wala nang kabuluhan ngayon. I regret i did not see rather did not recognize her effort, simplicity, toughness, sincerity and kababaang loob in ruling the nation. I admit I was regionalistic and I'm sorry.

Sorry, thank you and goodbye Tita Cory. Job well done, may your tribe increase!!!!

Desperately Batanes

Two weeks ago my girlfriend decided to take a trip to sagada. We researched somuch on Sagada and opted for Batanes instead for more adventure. We alternately surfed thenet for possible flight booking. For two weeks we found all seats sold out. We never gave up and tried other ways to get to Batanes. We found a website that there is a carrier thru MV Princess Ivatan at the Currimao Port. Early morning the following day I set out for Currimao Port only to my great dismay to f ind out that MV Pricess Ivatan is no longer operational. I asked the personalities at the port for some other liner but there was none. Seair and Zest Airways (formerly Asian Spirit) are the only means of going to Batanes. And yet airfare is such a big deal and takes toll in reservation, if not fully booked.

Now my question is, do all people in Batanes ever afford the airfare? I even called up the manager of a certain cooperative in Batanes who used to manage MV Princess Ivatan for some suggestion of an alternative means aside from Seair and Zest Airways, there was none.

Now my girlfriend and I dropped the idea of Batanes.

Where's the excitement?
